Built on either side of the Winterbourne, a stream that runs the length of the village, Winterborne St Martin, commonly known as Martinstown, is alongside Maiden Castle and surrounded by bronze-age barrows, including the famous Clandon Barrow. Dating back to Norman times, the village retains its rural charm; in 2007 Martinstown won the Best Kept Village in Dorset award, in the Large Village category. Amenities include a village shop and post office, and a pub (The Brewers Arms).
