The Cobb (Lyme Regis harbour) was built in the 13th century and is well known for the scene where Meryl Streep stood, looking longingly out to sea in ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ and also the steps where Louisa Musgrove fell in Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’.

The old town which dates back to the 14th Century is built around the River Lym and has its own working water mill and the shelter of Lyme Bay offers a surprising micro-climate.
