Swanage

Swanage is a small, attractive seaside Victorian town. With a variety of attractions to suit all ages, sporting and leisure activities, as well as historic buildings and a great beach for the traditional seaside holiday it has plenty to offer.

It is situated at the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site and is an ideal base to explore the eastern half of the World Heritage Coastline. Located on the isle of Purbeck, the wide bay gives good views of the Isle of Wight on a clear day.

It has plenty of interesting shops and a choice of numerous places to eat and drink with lots of cosy tea rooms serving Dorset cream teas.

Swanage Pier, which was originally constructed in 1859/60 as a dock to the paddle steamers is now one of the UK’s best diving locations and home to its oldest diving club. The Swanage Railway, is evidence of the Victorian era with one of the country’s few working steam railway that services the town and runs to a regular schedule throughout the day operating 6 miles of track between Swanage and Norden – a great way to explore the lovely countryside.
