Dorchester
All Year Round
A great historic market town with plenty of fabulous attractions that are not to be missed. It was also the birthplace and home to the author Thomas Hardy, whose novels Tess of the d’Urbervilles and The Mayor of Casterbridge were both based on the town.
Besides its 18th Century houses, Dorchester is steeped in history. The town still has some Roman features, including part of the town walls and the foundations of a Roman town house now a Grade I listed building.
This large town holds a market every Wednesday and on the first Saturday of every month there is a farmers market.
