Shaftesbury’s claim to fame is most certainly Gold Hill the location of the famous Hovis advert. Almost anyone hearing Dvorak’s New World Symphony will be reminded of those bygone days and that bike bumping down the cobbled streets of Gold Hill.
However, Shaftesbury has plenty more to offer. It’s one of the highest points in North Dorset, with magnificent views over the Blackmore Vale. As well as being a good base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, there are also many independent shops and places to eat. With a history that goes back hundreds of years, Shaftesbury is full of beautiful cottages and fine historical buildings. A very pleasant place to spend some of your holiday.
