Hide Lulworth Cove and surrounding villages intro
Listed in the Domesday Book, for much of the last millennium or so Coombe Keynes was the centre of a thriving parish – with the Church of the Holy Rood at its hub. Today, Coombe Keynes is little more than a (very pretty) hamlet: around 80-odd people live there, there are just 22 houses in the village and 37 properties in the parish as a whole. Having somehow survived the Reformation, however, the church remains – and is a treasure-house of antiquities. There are fabulous walks, too: along the Arne Peninsula, around the Lulworth Estate and through the pretty Cole Wood.
